Special Town Meeting

 

The Special Town Meeting was called to order by First Selectman John Hodge at 7:31 p.m.  After the Pledge of Allegiance was recited, the call of the meeting was read by Janice Zackeo, Town Clerk.  Michael Gill made a motion to accept the call as read, seconded by Donald Blackwell.   Call passed by voice vote.

 

First Selectman John Hodge called for nominations for moderator.  Peter Benzinger made a motion to nominate Ronald Oliveri, seconded by James Stead.  James Stead made a motion to close nominations, seconded by Donald Blackwell, approved by voice vote.  Ronald Oliveri was approved as moderator.

 

Moderator Oliveri read Resolution #1:

Be It Resolved that the Town of New Fairfield approve an upgrade to the Town's emergency radio communications system in an amount not to exceed $1,200,000 and authorize the expenditure of the Town funds thereof.  The project will be financed by using $150,000 from the emergency radio communications capital and non recurring fund and $1,050,000 from the Town's unappropriated capital and nonrecurring funds.

 

Moderator Oliveri called Fire Chief Ed McCue to the podium to give a short presentation on the proposed resolution.  Joseph Letizia questioned who was guaranteeing the coverage stated.  He was told the company is providing the guarantee.

 

Moderator Oliveri then opened the floor for a motion as to the date and time of the machine vote for Resolution #1.  Allen Mardis made a motion to hold the machine vote on Saturday,

September 12, 2009 between the hours of 12:00 noon – 8:00 p.m., seconded by Donald Blackwell.  Being there were no other motions for date and time, Moderator Oliveri called for a vote on the motion.  After a voice vote, Moderator Oliveri declared the motion passed.

 

First Selectman John Hodge announced that Town Clerk Janice Zackeo has stated that she will open her office on Saturday, September 12, 2009 from 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon to issue absentee ballots to those unable to vote in person during the approved machine vote hours.

 

Ralph Langham made a motion to adjourn, seconded by Joseph Letizia, approved by voice vote.  Meeting adjourned at 7:45 p.m.
