Board Profile
The Zoning Board of Appeals is chartered by state statute, and consists of five regular members and three alternates. It has regular and, sometimes, special meetings, notice of all of which appears in the local paper; meeting information is also available on this site. The ZBA's primary mission is to consider and, when justified, grant relief from zoning regulations to properties burdened by a hardship arising from the land. It also hears appeals of cease and desist and other orders issued by the Zoning Enforcement Officer, and certain decisions of the Zoning Commission.

Because it operates in a quasi-judicial capacity and should not have ex parte contact with parties, please do not contact the ZBA in person concerning the substance of any pending or other matter likely to come before it. Letters and other documents filed with the ZBA will become a part of the public record for any matter heard.
