June is Dog Licensing Month

Q. When are dog licenses due?

A. Dog licenses must be procured on or before June 30th, or a penalty must be imposed pursuant to Section 22-338 of the Connecticut General Statues.

Q. When do dog licenses expire?

A. Dog licenses expire June 30th each year.

Q. Where and when do I get my dog’s license?

A. Dog licenses are issued in the Town Clerk’s office anytime Town Hall is open: Monday – Thursday, 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. and Friday 8:30 a.m. until 12:00 noon.

Q. What paperwork do I need to license a new or unregistered dog?

A. A signed current rabies vaccination certificate must be submitted, pursuant to Section 22-338.

Q. Is there a discount for a spayed or neutered dog?

A. Yes, you must provide a spayed or neutered certificate from a licensed veterinarian to receive the discount.

Q. What is the fee to license a dog?

A. In June; male or female dogs are $19.00 each; neutered or spayed dogs are $8.00 each.

Q. Is there a late penalty if I do not license my dog in June?

A. Yes. The penalty is $1.00 per month or portion thereof.

Q. Can I license my dog by mail?

A. Yes. Mail a check for the correct fee, made payable to New Fairfield Town Clerk, with all the necessary certificates and a stamped self-addressed return envelope. Mail to: Town Clerk, 4 Brush Hill Road, New Fairfield, CT 06812. Your certificates will be returned to you with your dog’s license.

Q. My dog is already licensed. I have received a reminder postcard to renew his license. The postcard states that his rabies vaccination certificate has not expired and he is neutered. What papers do I need to bring, or mail to the office?

A. None. Send or bring your check for $8.00 with the postcard to the Town Clerk’s office in the month of June.

Q. At what age do I need to license my dog?

A. All dogs six months of age or over need to be licensed.

Q. Who should I notify if I no longer have my dog?

A. Please contact the Town Clerk’s office with that information.

Q. Who receives a listing of dog licenses issued in New Fairfield?

A. Besides the lists maintained in the Town Clerk’s office, both the Regional Control Officer and the New Fairfield Police Department receive lists.

Q. Do I have to license my cat also?

A. No.
