MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS


Q. When are Municipal Elections held?

A. Municipal Elections are held in odd years, on the first Tuesday, after the first Monday in November.

Q. What are the hours for voting?

A. Voting hours are 6:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m.

Q. When is the last day I can register to vote in a Municipal Election?

A. This date varies – please check with the Registrar of Voters at (203) 312-5613 or (203) 312-5614 for the current date.

Q.  Where can I obtain information on Election Day Registration?

Q. Will there be any special sessions for voter registration?

A. Yes, the registrars have special sessions for voter registration. Please call their office at (203) 312-5613 or (203) 312-5614 as to the dates and times.

Q. Where do I vote in a Municipal Election?

A. If you live in the 108th District, your polling place is Meeting House Hill School (Gymnasium) at 24 Gillotti Road. If you live in the 138th District, your polling place is Company A Firehouse at 302 Ball Pond Road.

Q. How do I know which district I live in?

A. Please call the Registrars office at (203) 312-5613 or (203) 312-5614 or the Town Clerk’s office at (203) 312-5616.

Q. When will absentee ballots be available?

A. Please contact the Town Clerk’s office at 312-5616 as to the availability date.

Q. Where can I obtain an absentee ballot?

A. In the Town Clerk’s Office at Town Hall

Q. When can I obtain an absentee ballot?

A. During regular Town Hall business hours: Monday - Thursday: 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Friday: 8:30 a.m. – noon

Q. Who is eligible to vote by absentee ballot in this election?

A. First, you must be a registered voter; second, one of the following criteria must be met when applying for an absentee ballot:

1) active service in the Armed Forces of the United States

2) absence from the town during voting hours

3) illness

4) physical disability

5) religious tenets, which forbid secular activity on the day of the primary

6) duties as an election official at a polling place other than your own during all of the hours of voting.

Q. Can the application and ballot be mailed to me?

A. Yes. However, the completed ballot must be received in the Town Clerk’s Office by the date of the election in order to be counted.

Q. Can anyone else obtain an application and ballot for me?

A. Someone other than yourself may obtain an application for you. Someone other than yourself may not obtain a ballot for you unless an emergency exists (see below). In all cases, ballots must be received in the Town Clerk’s Office by the date of the election in order to be counted.

Q. If an unforeseen emergency arises that makes me unable to go to the polls, can I still vote by absentee ballot on the day of the election?

A. Yes, there is an Emergency Application for an Absentee Ballot. The criteria to obtain an Emergency Absentee Ballot is as follows:

1) an unforeseen illness or physical disability occurring within 6 days before the close of the election or

2) because you are a patient in a hospital within 6 days of the election
