Coming soon to New Fairfield! Did you know that the single largest component of solid waste sent to incinerators and landfills is food waste? With nearly 33% of CT’s waste stream consisting of organic materials, there is significant potential to reduce, reuse, and divert a substantial portion of food and organic waste materials from CT’s municipal solid waste stream. New Fairfield has installed a “Smart Bin” to provide a more convenient option for dropping off organic waste (food scraps). The purpose is to create easy and convenient opportunities for residents to participate in reducing their waste by removing food scraps. The program will kick off on Saturday, May 2 at the Senior Center. You can read more about how the program works by visiting www.hrra.org and clicking on “New Food Scraps SMART BINS” on the left side of the page under “Current Interest.”
